Test For Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes occurs during pregnancy in women. When the woman is pregnant, the woman’s body makes extra insulin. Additional insulin is needed because the hormones in the placenta make insulin hormones less responsive to the body. Due to this, the level of sugar increases which causes gestational diabetes. There are many facts which are help in becoming of Gestational diabetes. During pregnancy if the age is more than 25 years. Have had an abortion before. If a child weighing more than 4 kg is born. If a woman has a high BP problem. If someone in a woman’s family had diabetes. If the pregnant is overweight during pregnancy. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Weight gain before pregnancy.
For the Diagnosis Of Gestational diabetes OGTT is performed.
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is also known as Glucose tolerance test. Other Common name is OGTT or GTT. Oral Glucose Tolerance Test is genrally given to pregnant women during 24th and 28th week of pregnancy for diagnosis of gestational diabetes .
Before Oral Glucose Tolerance Test The patient is instructed not to eat anything 8-10 hours.
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test OGTT Result for adults or children are as follows:
- Below 140 mg/dL- Normal
- 140 and 199 mg/dL- Prediabetes
- 200 mg/dL and above – Diabetes
If the blood glucose label is over 200 mg/dL, then doctor will repeat the test or use another test to for diagnos of diabetes
